Wells is the center of coastal southern Maine, north of Kittery, York and Ogunquit and just south of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach and Portland. Wells has been attracting vacationers for centuries; it’s actually the 3rd established town in Maine – dating back to 1653. There are seven miles of beaches in Wells comprised of Wells Beach, Crescent Beach, Drakes Island Beach and Moody Beach. Each beach is worth a visit and all offer soft sand and refreshing salt water for swimming and surfing. Wells Harbor is home to boats from lobster fishermen to pleasure yachts and fishing charters. Within Wells Harbor you can canoe or kayak up the Webhannet River, or paddleboard around the calm waters, or venture out to see through the Wells breakwater. Wells Harbor is also home to Wells Harbor Park where concerts in the Gazebo are free in summertime, and special events like craft fairs, Chilifest and Harborfest take place every year.

Wells is a nature lovers paradise, besides the beautiful beaches, there is Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm where seven miles of walking trails lead to salt water marsh and bird sanctuaries. Guided nature walks offer insights to this National Estuarine Research Reserve. Also Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge offers nature trails along the salt marsh and coastline on the border of Wells and Kennebunk. Wells is also home to Maine farms and weekly farmers markets. You can pick your own strawberries or apples in season at Spiller Farm or Chase Farms.

Antique and art lovers will find that Wells is bustling with antique shops and book stores along Route 1. There is also the classic Reny’s store where bargains are featured daily, and all the major stores like Rite Aid, CVS and Hannaford for your necessities.
